As a business owner, you are likely to find yourself wearing all kinds of hats. There are so many things to think about and plan for. One area that often gets neglected or overlooked is SEO or Search Engine Optimization. We all know we need it but I think many of us are all secretly hoping we won’t have to deal with it. SEO may seem overwhelming at first, but once you know some of the basics, incorporating great techniques throughout your website won’t be difficult at all! You’ll be able to create great rankings, getting your website noticed!
In order to achieve long-term success, it’s important to cross your T’s and dot your I’s… and that means finally taking steps to improve your SEO!
What Is It Exactly?
Before we tell you how to improve it, let us first explain a bit more about what it is. SEO is how you position your website so that Search Engines can easily understand what sort of content is available to viewers. The search engines then display your website in the search results when people search for something related to the content you provide.
In other words, if you sell fresh cut flower arrangements, you’ll want your website to pop up as close to the top of the list as possible when people search for “flower arrangements” in your area.
How Do You Do It?
Here’s my extremely short and oversimplified explanation.
You have to find out what your customers are searching for. Let’s say you are a plastic surgeon and you offer rhinoplasty services. People aren’t necessarily searching for the word “rhinoplasty” as much as they would be searching for terms like “nose job” or “nose shaping.” By incorporating into your content the different terms people use, you’ll be able to let the search engines know that you are offering the kind of content that people want to see.
Asking The Right Questions
You’ll also want to know what kinds of questions people have about your product or service. Once you know what people are asking, you can provide the answers on your website. This is a great way to determine which kind of content you want to produce. You can then use this content to build relationships with your prospective clients. One of my favorite sites to help with this is Answer The Public. All you have to do is enter a keyword or topic and the site will immediately generate questions and comparisons that will help you create great content, which will, in turn, get your website noticed.
Structure Your Site For Google
There are a number of great products and services that can help with structuring
Add Links
Make it easy for people to navigate your site’s pages using links within pages. Google loves to see a “spider web” of links, interwoven throughout your site. But don’t stop there. Build a community by linking to other reputable websites with content you admire. You can choose to link to social media sites, articles, associations, affiliations, or product recommendations. Once the links are in place, set-up different calls to action, encouraging people to click!
You can also have other websites link to you. When you are producing high-quality content, other websites will want to share the information you provide. This is called backlinking, and it will do wonders for your SEO rankings.
Important To Note…
There are other things to consider such as the speed of your website and bounce rates, but bottom line, BE AUTHENTIC and produce QUALITY & RELEVANT CONTENT!
